Who We Are
Thank you for your interest in Happy Horse Sports Therapy LLC (HHST). We provide equine and canine bodywork for the comfort and wellbeing of your horse or dog.
Owner, Kate Schaffer, is a qualified Equine Osteopath EDO and Canine Osteopath CDO (Vluggen Institute) and can be found on both the IREO (International Registrar of Equine Osteopaths) and the WAEO (Worldwide Alliance of Equine Osteopaths) websites. In addition to equine and canine osteopathy, Kate is also qualified in various soft tissue modalities including Equine Sports Massage, Myofascial Release, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Photonic Therapy, Acu-Pressure, Kinesiology Taping, and she has also completed the 2-day introductory Masterson Method program with Jim Masterson. Her equine and canine studies are further supported by her Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice (London College of Osteopathy and Health Sciences).
Happy Horse Sports Therapy works predominantly with osteopathic concepts and principles. Osteopathy mobilises the body to regain health, prevent sickness and increase general wellbeing by improving the way fluids and messages flow within the body. It is a tool to help the body to help itself.
There are three pillars of osteopathy

Musculoskeletal/parietal (which looks a lot like chiropractic, as this is where chiro originated from)

Cranio-sacral (influencing cerebral-spinal fluid and cranial sutures to stimulate the parasympathetic system)

Visceral (using mobilisation techniques and natural products to support optimal organ function).
Osteopathy is not about “fixing” the horse - it cannot magically heal past traumas or cure arthritis - instead, it is about helping your horse to move and function the best they can within the limitations of the body they have.

Our services include
Equine Osteopathy
Owner, Kate Schaffer, is a qualified Equine Osteopath EDO – a graduate of The Vluggen Institute for Equine Osteopathy and Education. Osteopathy is a holistic modality encompassing three pillars – musculo-skeletal, cranio-sacral and visceral – all connected by fascia.
Equine Massage Therapy
Kate is also a certified equine massage therapist, qualified through Equestricare. Massage relaxes the nervous system by slowing the heart rate and blood pressure. Stress and pain hormones are also decreased by massage.
Myofascial Release
Using gentle pressure and stretching, we release restrictions in the fascia – a crucial connective tissue. This modality restores comfort and freedom of movement, making a noticeable difference in your horse’s stride.
Acupressure/Photonic Therapy
Inspired by ancient Eastern practices, our acupressure/photonic therapy work targets specific points to stimulate energy flow. This promotes relaxation, supports the body’s natural healing processes, and fosters a sense of balance. Kate is qualified in this modality through the JENT Institute.
Kinesiology taping
Special equine tape, strategically applied, can be used to treat injuries, support weak areas of the body, enhance performance, improve vascularity, and manage scars. Kate completed her kinesiology taping qualifications with Equi-Tape.
Saddle-fit advice
We can advise if your saddle is causing your horse pain, and when to seek professional advice from a qualified saddle-fitter.
